When I was young, my teacher said "Everyone should have a hobby!". I just listened and let it be. When I grow up, I think my teach was right. Now, I touch in the middle, I don't know what I like, what I want to do. I start looking back my memories, what I used to do, what I'm good at when I were as child. I want to share you my thinking and how I found my hobby.
Simple lines but creative, I love the way illustrators create their ideas come true, how they put colours or event just simple back & white. Just looking the illustrations make me happy ! ^^~
"I fall in love with black white line drawings, simple illustrations. I can browsing illustration pages and save to my favourite all day".
Then I started question myself, is this my hobby? But I felt I just love beautiful thing, I don't have knowledge about it, I can not draw like that, and event my imagination does not work that way, so It might not my hobby. But I was wrong.
" A hobby is a regular activity done for enjoyment, typically during one's leisure time. Hobbies include collecting themed items and objects, engaging in creative and artistic pursuits, playing sports, or pursuing other amusements. Participation in hobbies encourages acquiring substantial skills and knowledge in that area. A list of hobbies changes with renewed interests and developing fashions, making it diverse and lengthy. Hobbies tend to follow trends in society, for example stamp collecting was popular during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries as postal systems were the main means of communication, while video games are more popular nowadays following technological advances. The advancing production and technology of the nineteenth century provided workers with more availability in leisure time to engage in hobbies. Because of this, the efforts of people investing in hobbies has increased with time". - From Wikipedia
How I find my hobby?
Before, I think it's so hard to find a hobby, I just made an excuse that I was too busy for my daily life, a hobby is something too expensive for me. I went to school and worked even on weekend until late night, went home, took shower, had dinner, then it almost 10pm, I just found some fun video on YouTube to watch and went to sleep. Then a new day started, and it was keeping going on until I graduated from university. I looked back what I have done in nearly 3 years at university, Yup, I got Bachelor certificate, otherwise, I have nothing that is interesting for myself.
[PAUSE current life] way back to childhood memories:
- When I was 10 years old, my hobby was playing soft toys, kitchen toy with my sister
- When I was 15 years old, I wanted to play a sport, I chose basketball. Even I am not good at it, but I was play for a year.
- When I was 17 years old, my mom didn't allows me play anything, because I needed to focus on final exam and prepared for studying in university.
- When I studies in university, I joined in a student group, I started to support them to run events, do marketing, just because my major is Marketing, and I have new friends here.
So my hobby is ended when I was 17 years old. I was no longer looking for it. Now, I want to refresh myself. In my memories, I was good at drawing, combine with my marketing, I always look for creative things, drawing,... I keep a lot of illustration image, love watch Japanese animation and read comic. It is not because of the content, because the way they drawing, making characters to tell a story. I also love browsing art galleries, museums to see artworks,... Therefore, I found out I love art.
But I am not good at drawing, I am not like my friends, they draw everyday, and post different photo of their drawing on Instagram. The only thing I can do is like their posts, I do not have talent like them. I also have no knowledge about it, I just amaze whenever i found a beautiful image and love it when reading its description in art galleries.
Well, I am a positive person, I am not easy to get dispress because of it. I want to know how to draw, It's not because I want to post on my Instagram, I just want to do it and I believe I can do it. I found in my illustration collection and start drawing them by myself. After finished, I felt not too bad, then I continue drawing simple things, I love line illustration, simple things. My drawing may not an artwork, but for me, I feel satisfy. Now, I can confident to say that "I have no drawing skills and I love drawing!"
And I found that hobby is everything you like, you do not have to be good at it, you just need to be like it and want it. You can practise for your hobby, develop it to become bigger and more incredible things, there is not limit for a hobby. For example, I love food and I drawing food :)
A hobby helps you feel free, deep in your own world that no one can brother!
Believe me, you have a hobby, just because you haven't found it yet! Keep looking and tell me "what is your hobby?" when you ready!
